Heavy rainfall during the long rainy season in Kenya has led to severe flooding in northern, central, and eastern regions. Rivers, including the Tana River, have overflowed, causing floods, flash floods, and landslides. This has resulted in casualties, displacement, and widespread damage, particularly in Counties such as Marsabit, Turkana, Tana River, Garissa, Kirinyaga, Muranga, Kiambu, Meru, Kisumu, Nairobi, and Kitui.

As of 11 April, UN OCHA reports 13 fatalities, approximately 15,000 displaced people, and around 20,000 affected individuals across the affected Counties. Nairobi County is the worst-hit, with 11 fatalities and around 9,000 displaced people. Several roads and highways have been closed due to the flooding.

The situation is expected to worsen, with more heavy rainfall and the possibility of very heavy rainfall forecast over most of the country in the next 72 hours.
